The main towns in the area:

The surrounding area is renowned for its many bastides, ancient villages and the beautiful Buzet wine region. In the apartment, you’ll find information leaflets, as well as details of good restaurants to suit every taste.

During the summer months, don’t miss the Marché Gourmand on Saturdays! Throughout July and August, there’s a weekly village fair. Under the plane trees, you’ll find a variety of food trucks and stalls, so there’s something for everyone to eat whilst enjoying a drink and some music.

Saint-Laurent is 3.5 kilometres from the Canal du Midi, a very popular cycle route. There are also many other cycle routes in the area, catering to all levels of ability. Detailed information is available in the gîte’s living room.

There are several walking routes in the area; details are available at the gîte. Please note: the terrain can get steep quite quickly!

Several rivers flow through Lot-et-Garonne: the Lot, the Garonne and smaller rivers such as the Baïse. About a 25-minute drive away is a canoe hire company offering a wide range of other water activities (nautilius-bks.fr).

You can go water-skiing at Lac du Moulineau in Damazan (a 15-minute drive away). There is also a water park with inflatable water slides and a swimming lake. Entry is free; there is a small sandy beach and plenty of grassy areas on a hill. (cascadewaterpark.com)

A little further afield, just under a 40-minute drive away, lies Lac de Clarens (near Casteljaloux). It features a large sandy beach with a playground and lifeguards on duty. Admission (18 June to 31 August) is €3 per person aged 12 and over. There is also a water park available at an additional cost (more info).

Next to Walygator is Aqualand Agen, which has lots of thrilling, large, fast and long water slides for plenty of water fun. Minimum age 4 years. Tip: it’s often cheaper to buy multiple tickets at once (aqualand.fr/agen).

You can enjoy thrilling rollercoasters and get thoroughly soaked at Walygator (known as Walibi in the Netherlands and Belgium). There are attractions for all ages. Visit walygatorparc.com and look under ‘Billets’ for special offers; you can combine your visit with Aqualand using combination tickets.

Clermont-Dessous is a small village 3.5 km away, offering lovely views and a church to visit. There are three restaurants: a pizzeria, a crêperie and La Maison Bleue (serving French cuisine, which is absolutely delicious).

As you drive from Aiguillon towards Tonneins, you’ll spot the Nicole viewpoint: there’s a large white cross standing on top of the hill. You’ll enjoy a 360-degree view from here. Follow the signs for ‘Panorama Nicole’ on the D813 after you’ve crossed the Lot.

Vianne, Lavardac, Damazan and Monflanquin are bastide villages — well worth a visit.

You might have to take a few winding roads to get there, but then you’ll find yourself right in the heart of Prayssas: a really lovely little town.
